Braving the Wilderness
The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone
with Rev. Simon Shadowlight

What does it mean to truly belong in an age of increased polarization? In the words of Brene Brown, it’s not something we negotiate or accomplish with others. It’s a daily practice that demands integrity and authenticity; a personal commitment that we carry in our hearts.
Learn the four practices of true belonging and map a path—one that cuts right through the wilderness.

June 6: Loneliness: The Lie of Being Unlovable
Belonging is different from fitting in or seeking approval. We often tell ourselves stories that limit us, and this is why it's crucial to become crystal clear about what belonging means. Learn the daily practice with Rev. Simon during his deep and insightful series.
Music: Lauren Shealy and the Mile Hi Band

June 13: People Are Hard to Hate Close-up
It's easy to hate people when we see them as some generic other. It's too easy and too common to react to people based on the label we or society have given them. But once we are willing to engage with a person as a unique individual, we can begin to connect on the level of shared humanity. The key is in building a practice of engaging in moments of joy and pain with those around us, including strangers. Retreating into what looks like safety doesn't work. We have to blaze forward and that requires us to be brave.
Music: Jennifer Burnett and the Mile Hi Band

June 20: Speak Truth to Bullsh*t
Life is rarely as easy as either/or. Yet, with ever-increasing frequency, people seem to be taking positions and presenting choices that come down to you either share our values or you don't; you either agree with us or you don't; you're either for us or against us.

That's BS! If we want to foster authentic belonging, we must have the courage to go deeper. Rev. Simon talks about a few of the practices we can use to Speak Truth to Bullsh*t.
Music: guest artist Robin Hackett and the Mile Hi Band

June 27: The Courage to Belong
We can spend our lives choosing to fit in over standing alone, but once we’ve stood up for ourselves and our beliefs, the bar is higher. When we’ve braved the wilderness and found the courage to say what we believe, doing what we feel is right despite criticism and fear, we may leave the wilderness, but the wild has marked our hearts.
Music: guest artist Peter Kater and Thom Lich
